Stark Brothers deconstructed the MV Jaguar, a 64m cargo ship of GRT 1044 tonnes. It is believed to be the first major vessel to be scrapped in a dry dock in New Zealand.
A 3m section of the bow and deck plating were removed prior to the ship being dry docked on 26 January 2012. The entire wheel house structure, the main engine, cargo mast and booms, hatch covers and most equipment were removed before full cut-up.
The final block was lifted from the dock at 1200 hours on 10 February 2012. While this was not a project of choice for Stark Bros, given the circumstances (a decision made by the receivers) that lead to the scrapping, it was an interesting and challenging project.
